Acquiring amber

Baltic amber is mainly acquired in Russia, Poland and Ukraine. World’s biggest mines are situated in Yantarny (near Kaliningrad). Amber is found there 5 yards below the surface.

Biggest deposits are located in Gdansk Bay. But amber is „hidden” very deep and often under water of Baltic Sea.
Formely people used to search the Baltic bottom from their boats with long sticks. Amber stones lay on the seabed, covered by sand and rocks. When uncovered, they floated in salty water.
It was especially effective during the stormy wather. But quite dangerous to be honest. Sometimes daredevils did not get back home. The King of the Sea guards his treasure.
